Director of Sales & Marketing

Sanibel, FL

The beautiful Sundial Beach Resort & Spa located on tropical Sanibel Island, Florida is seeking a Director of Sales and Marketing to join our team! 

Responsible leading the sales department, for revenue production for the resort, and meeting or exceeding planned revenue objectives for occupancy and average daily rate (ADR). Manages all areas of sales according to Brand standards to achieve a professional rapport within the local business community. The Director of Sales & Marketing is a “hands-on” manager, actively involved on a daily basis in securing, qualifying and following up on leads to book specific business. The Director of Sales & Marketing’s central focus is in sales and the development of the sales team.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Profit Management

  1. Meets or exceeds annual room and catering budget for the resort.
  2. Prepares resort’s Annual Marketing plan.
  3. Prepares departmental zero base budget that correctly reflects the resort’s business plan.
  4. Forecasts occupancy fluctuations and directs selling activities to maximize revenues.
  5. Knows the resort’s demand segments, sources of business for each, and balances market segments according to supply and demand.
  6. Knows the principal competition for each market segment and takes advantage of resort’s strengths against each competitor.
  7. Accurately forecasts occupancy changes based on changing market conditions (additions to supply and demand, etc.).
  8. Participates in revenue calls and manages process

Marketing and Sales Management

  1. Develops/assists with development of the resort’s marketing and sales plan based on the resort’s position and strengths within each market segment.
  2. Implements resort’s marketing and sales plan.
  3. Analyzes and understands the competition’s strengths and weaknesses for each market segment and successfully directs marketing activities against each.
  4. Identifies and maintains constant communications with the resort’s key accounts.
  5. Actively sells room nights through outside sales calls, telemarketing, tours, etc.
  6. Uses the resources available in the Brand manual to surface, call on, and track potential business.
  7. Participate in the Resort's Executive Committee which is responsible for planning and leading Resort
  8. Ensures that team members (specifically reservations and front desk staff) are familiar with key accounts and “specifics” (special rates, special requirements, etc.) relating to business booked in the resort.
  9. Helps to develop management talent by acting as a mentor for direct reports.
  10. Hires, trains, and conducts performance evaluations and provides feedback to team members.
  11. Adherence to all safety rules and regulations.
  12. Compliance with all resort policies and procedures and described and communicated by management.
  13. Additional duties as assigned by management
  14. Have complete knowledge of all policies, standards and procedures of the department.                
  15. Be familiar with resort services, amenities, and outlets.
  16. Maintain confidentiality to protect Resort and its assets at all times.
  17. Maintain cleanliness of work area.
  18. Available for work assignments outside of associate’s customary work schedule. This may include evenings, overnight, weekends and holidays
  19. Adherence to all safety rules and regulations.
  20. Compliance with all resort policies and procedures and described and communicated by management.

 

Physical Requirements:

These physical demands represent the physical requirements necessary for an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the described essential functions of the position.

  • Associate must be able to sit in the same position for up to 8 hours a day consecutively.
  • Associate may have to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Associate is often required to sit and use his or her hands and fingers, to handle or feel.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • Associate must talk and hear.

 

Qualifications, Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Minimum of 5 years of sales management experience required in a resort/hotel setting.
  • Previous experience with condo resort preferred
  • Must be detail oriented, have ability to communicate well with all levels within and outside the organization, and be able to problem-solve with team members and guests.
  • Ability to travel up to a week at a time.
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer skills including typing, use of Microsoft Office and internet searches required.
  • Proficient in Delphi
  • Ability to effectively interact in a professional manner with management team, guests, condo owners, and Resort ownership.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, computer skills and strong analytical skills.
